Collective painting

Collective painting began as a year long venture, it was extended and has developed. It’s original aim was to collect a series of paintings made in different places by groups of different people. As the work progresses the painters must choose how they affect the surface, painting over, altering or avoiding previous painters marks. Each work is an expression of the way individuals react to image making collectively in a particular space and time.

Everyone who takes part is asked to consider the space they are in and any previous marks on the canvas, they are also asked not to add any representational imagery to avoid the piece becoming a painting of a room or a colourful collection of graffiti like images.

We now have about ten large blasts of life and colour.
